11 July to Mr. Trotter requesting permission for "officers of the Smithsonian Institution" to excavate a mound on the Trotter Property -- Trotter's response: "cut into the mound for 25 dollars if you will fill up the cut" -- also includes a note to Henshaw requesting assistance in mound excavation.

4 Aug. to Major J.W. Powell -- report of first months' work on present field trip.

4 Aug. to Henshaw -- problems with James Blythe, interpreter.

6 Aug. to Henshaw --Blythe problems corrected.

8 Sept. to Powell --2nd monthly field report.

20 Sept. to Henshaw -- is sending Cherokee materials from his field work.
